Black Middle Class: The Problem with Black Business Districts

No Help From the Outside

black business conferenceThe very biggest problem, and one that is consistent, since Black man met white man, is that the white man insinuates himself into our affairs.

We as Black people have to understand and internalize that we are grown adults. We do not need anyone’s help. We don’t need white money. We don’t need white planning. We don’t need white expertise. We don’t need white advice. We don’t need white caring. We don’t need white outreach. We don’t need white set asides. We don’t need white intervention. We don’t need white coalition. We don’t need white professionals. We don’t need white financiers. We don’t need white economists. We don’t need anyone white.

Now, that goes DOUBLE for all other ethnic groups. Every god damned time Black people even hint at forming something, here come white people saying: no make it “minority” and include mexicans and asians. Yet, there is no Mexican “minority” district, nor asian “minority” district. We’re always told to include everyone else under our umbrella.

Black Middle Class:The Problem with Black Business Movements

Black panel discussionThe Black Empowerment Project raised a very valid question, one that has yet to be responded to, nor answered by any of the Black economic movements. That question is how do we achieve Black economic independence? Now, the question suggests the answer. The answer is, by build Black economic intradependence and independence. But, all the Black economic movements completely fail to even formulate a plan to encourage Black economic independence.

Now, Dr. Claud Anderson, in his powernomics movement, had a very sensible idea, but it shared the same limitation as the Marcus Garvey movement, it had a singular focus in one product, albeit a very good one. Dr. Anderson wanted a vertical monopoly: fisheries, transportation, restaurants. Garvey wanted ships for transport and cargo.

African American Manifesto: My Black Agenda for Mellenium 2000

African American Manifesto: My Black Agenda for Millennium 2000

African Slaves[I am touched that you wrote me. I have been planning to start a Black business bureau for some time now. I have not written out the plan, but this seems as good a time as any. This letter will not only go to you, but I am now, because you inspired me, will be sending this out to every Black church, Black politician, Black organization in the entire country. I can dedicate a few thousand to this letter and campaign. I am also an online marketing genius and will be doing a major press release of this letter as well. Thank you for inspiring me. Here’s my response to you.]

When African slaves were sold or stolen from Africa, they were first sent to an island just off the coast of west Africa. On this island, they were mind-wiped and the men were brainwashed against the women. For, 95% of Africans were sent to central and south America. In central and south America Africans could hope to live the ripe old age of 23. However, they actually were treated quite a bit better, since they learned skills. However, because their death rate was so high, they never grew in population.

Well, what about that 5% that was sent to America? Because the US had a constitution that said “all men are created equal”, Americans went overboard to make sure Africans were never seen as humans. They went through TWO different mind-wiping sessions. One off the coast of Louisiana, and a 3rd at the auction blocks. However, they were treated with kid gloves, compared to south America. However, they were kept as dumb as rocks. They learned absolutely nothing and it was forbidden to teach them anything, by law. Americans were deathly afraid they would revolt, which actually happened several time, but was kept to just that city. One town was completely slaughtered by Africans. There is even a famous painting about it, however this is not taught in public education.

When slavery was abolished in the US, Africans had been able to live to a much higher age than in south America and grew to be 30% of the population. However, these Africans had been mind-wiped 3 separate times, stripped of religion, origin, family, and culture. Upon their release they knew nothing, literally nothing.

Africans had to teach themselves how to read and write, make a family, farm for themselves, etc. Two things they could not teach themselves: their religion; their cultural origins. Even with these horrible odds, Africans became 80% literate in 50 years, something unheard of in human history.

While there were Africans that flourished in the new free era, most barely got by. A lot were slaughtered by racist white people who saw African freedmen as an economic threat to their livelihood. Many new laws were passed to keep tools out of the Africans hands; minimum wage laws were passed to keep people from hiring Africans; and anything produced by Africans was not allowed to come to market. Many African farmers went under from not being able to sell their produce.

The answer is not a question of just pouring money into the modern African American community. It requires a COMPLETE overhaul.

  • – branding: African Americans need to be branded as a viable and independent political group with our own identity, culture, religion and origin from Africa
  • – BRANDING: we need to produce new art, media, entertainment that if Pan-African, African centered and African inspired, with Africans as the only people in such media [THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL OTHER POINTS]
  • – we need to denounce any and all other groups that try to co-op our history, culture and art, who systematically claim it as their own and as their origination [like the Egyptian story; jewish story; our music; our culture]
  • – as a political group we need to acquire and send lobbyist to every state legislature and the federal congress, to lobby for African political and economic gains [NOT CIVIL RIGHTS]; we need things like the war on drugs stopped, which was intended and used as a racial profiling thing to send Africans into the prison system, to the tune of 75% of all Africans in prison today are there based on drug charges, to the tune of a $75 BILLION a year price tag; we need to remove all racist legislation; we need to understand, read and hold politicians responsible to the constitution, which is our best and only way to eradicate racist legislation; we need to remove Africans off of all social welfare legislation, this has destroyed the African family
  • black married couple and kids– as an independent political group we need to divorce ourselves from the Democrat party; if we are serious about our independence we need to have the capability to vote as a group; voting for the Democrat party has made the Democrats take our votes and voice for granted
  • – we need to control African finance and African money; we need to open and gather in every city African run, operated and owned credit unions; we need to aggressively educate and finance African business; we need to arrest and stop any 3rd parties that are financing and control African business
  • – we need to control all African disposable income and spending; we need to arrest and stop any 3rd parties that are selling commodities in our communites and to Africans in America
  • – we need to control all African necessary expenditures, this includes food, energy and real property; we need to arrest and stop any 3rd party that controls necessities Africans have to pay for
  • – we need to go into our communities, move back in, fix them up, and open up all forms of business that Africans need and use on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis; we need to target and pick locations that have high concentrations of Africans already in them and do our best to move out 3rd parties; we need to open up convenience stores, credit unions, grocers, transportation and everything else needed, in each community so that Africans do not need to go outside of the community to spend money.
  • – we need to start regional stock markets that trade in African produce, commodities, and equities in African firms; this will get African farmers to produce and transport their produce to African stores as one big giant economic circle
  • – we need to connect these regional stock markets with stock markets in the motherland, which are now booming and coming online; 2 new major stock markets have come online recently in Africa and they need more business
  • – we need to understand that marriage is the most stabilizing social factor in our modern time, and we need to encourage our community to get married at every opportunity; marriage also is very strategic and economically good for both people; we need to launch a national campaign to encourage Africans to marry each other; we need to put African marriage in front of our people, through pictures, art, music, entertainment and as a sound business strategy [since it is more economic to be married]
  • – we need to purchase and take private, all historically Black Colleges; we need to control all African education; we need to arrest and stop 3rd parties from mis-educating our African youth, young adults and young professionals; this is exactly what all other groups do; we need to open and start vocational and skill based education for high school and young African adults; we need to access and encourage our youth to understand what they are good at, what they desire and to realize that college is not the answer for nearly 60% of the population; we need to educate our youth that colleges are a business and that they are putting out propaganda that you “should” go to college, in order to rake in money, at the young African’s expense, which they’ll be paying for, for decades; we need to encourage our young African to develop skills, such as automotive, electrical, plumbing etc, for blue collar paychecks, instead of minimum wage

If we are to survive this next century, we need to take some serious stock of what we are doing. We need to realize that, unless we get organized and think of ourselves as a group, we will be treated as chattel, misused, miseducated, and state dependent victims to a socialist state, with our wealth stolen year after year.

As it stands now, Africans in America cannot do anything to protect, save or help our countries in the motherland. Our people are being raped, murdered and wealth stolen by nearly every western power on the planet, and now Asia is getting in on the taking. We need to clean our house and get it in order.

A movement started years ago for Black people to buy all of their items from Black owned and operated businesses; bank with  Black owned and operated  banks; use  Black owned and operated  services like  Black owned and operated  dry cleaners or  Black owned and operated   car shops; and move into Black controlled neighborhoods.  Along with this is to buy homes in Black controlled neighborhoods. And, to open up businesses in Black controlled neighborhoods.

Black Economic Empowerment Movement

For those not able or not on their feet, the wealthier brothers and sisters must help them and teach them. We must not only take care of each other financially, but pull up those that have fallen through the cracks. Help them get off of welfare and food stamps and teach them how to open up their own business eventually.

The reality is, government is not going to save us, religion is not going to save us, helping our own brothers and sisters, living together and starting and supporting Black commerce will. Realize that government has failed us. Black leaders have failed us. Religion has failed us. Those are the facts. Pull your head out of the sand and recognize that we are now in last place, even behind white and indian mexicans that just swam across the river. We are last in every single economic list and have always been.

Empowerment comes from within not without. So many Blacks look to others for help when we could and can help ourselves. We need to own up to certain issues we dare not talk about: teen pregnancy; abortion; young marriage rate falling. Tackle these and most of the dangerous issues take care of themselves. If young couples were encouraged to get married, instead of staying apart, having babies out of wedlock or worse, going through with infanticide,  our community would stabilize and the criminal element would drastically fall. If older couples would advise young couples and be there for support, those issues would dramatically decrease. If more affluent Black men would counsel and teach young Black men, Black empowerment would be a reality.

For those thinking that moving into a Black neighborhood is segregationist, understand that the Italians do it, Jews do it, Mormons do it, Asians do it, Hispanics do it. Everyone but Black people move to be with their people and financially support each other. Black people also fall prey to people calling them separatists, meanwhile the very person calling the Black people a separatist, lives in a community of their own.

It is time out to listen to the pie in the sky rhetoric preached by those would gladly see the Black community fail and continue to fail. We need to change our language and our dialogue. We’re not niggers. We’re brothers and sisters. We’re not punks, we’re businessmen. We’re not bourgeois, we’re entrepreneurs. We’re not hoes, we’re ladies. We’re not b****s, we’re African princesses. We’re not niggers, we’re African princes. We don’t live in a ghetto [ a word used to describe a jewish settlement ], we live in a Black controlled neighborhood.

We don’t need Black teens getting pregnant out of wedlock, being abandoned by their mates and then going on a system that will either enslave her with welfare, food stamps and medicaid, or worse encourage her to commit infanticide, we need to have people young couples can go to discuss the dangers and pitfalls of young love and having sex too early, when the consequences last a life-time.

We don’t need young Black men hanging out in the street with no hope of a future, being harassed by bully policemen, who’s only desire is to bolster the city and state’s money by throwing them in jail and into the private prison system. We need affluent Black men to be on call so that those Black men could be being mentored and taught about business and raising a family.

We don’t need Black families destroyed by an economic downturn with no savings and nothing to fall back on, and divorce or violence ensuing. We need affluent Black men to take the husband / fathers aside and coach them on starting a business and amassing Black wealth, so that no one else can control their economic destiny.

For Blacks: What is a Man?

Are You a Man?

Read any man-hating feminist website and you’ll find 10 definitions of what a man is.  They all circle, like vultures, around the key talking point of the definition of a man being somehow related to the financial responsibility male humans having to their unborn or born children, conceived and delivered out of wedlock.  Contrary to statistical facts to the contrary, these definitions are ultimately aimed at the Black “man”.

The straw that broke the camels back, and why I’m writing this article, is when a facebooked “friend”, a “brother” [you know the type, a stereotypical black guy that MTV loves to put on some stupid reality show they have], parroted that same lame definition that a man is somehow defined by his lack of financial backing of some bastard child he has had.

Let’s set the record straight to all you idiots who read this crap and don’t do your own research:

  • regardless of your specific retarded Black man that doesn’t give you a dime personally, Black MEN spend:
    1. more money, percentagewise, compared to their own income – for their children
    2. more time and more quality time – with their children

than any other racial category out there.*

  • there is not a widespread unwed mother epedemic in the Black community – they are a small minority*
  • once married, Black couples tend to stay together for life, moreso than any other racial group – yes Black people have a lower divorce rate*
  • Black people in general are LESS promiscuous than other racial groups – Black people tend to have less premarital sex than other races*

So when you see some Black woman talking about shiftless, trifling, deadbeat Black fathers, you need to correct her and tell her, that that’s just HER man.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I’d venture to guess that the people trying to say Black men have a tendency to be deadbeat fathers, probably aren’t even Black.  Say it enough times and people will believe it is true.  But, who would want Black men to have a bad reputation with Black women?  *GASP*  who could it be? [sarcasm off]

The Real Definition of a Man

All stupidity aside, the definition of being “a man” has nothing to do with finances.  Quite frankly, if women didn’t open their legs to begin with, we wouldn’t even have an unwed mother issue at all.  Yes, I said it.  And, it needs to be said.  You don’t blame T.V. for your child copying a show and killing itself, you blame the parent for being bad parents.  Just as you don’t blame some lower income class boy for not paying money to some girl who opened her legs several times.  You knew he didn’t have money when you met him.  What’s the big surprise he doesn’t pay you money for you having a bastard child?  Close your legs and none of this would be a problem.  And, quite frankly, in my book, both do not share the responsibility of her being an unwed mother.  A man and a woman are not equal in pregnancy.  Stop trying to put it on the boy that he is somehow equal to a female.  Once you divest yourself of this notion of equality among the sexes you’ll notice that women and men are vastly different when it comes to child bearing and rearing.  This carebear, huggably soft, society we live in today is leading us down a blind path towards a cliff.  Once we fall off, there is no turning back.  Women and men are not equal.  Women and men are not the same.

Do you think for a minute, if I, a man, could get pregnant from having casual sex that I would EVER have casual sex?  Oh, let me answer that for you, in case you didn’t get my drift.  HELLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I would never have casual sex.  I would need ironclad assurances before I had sex with anyone.  I would need legally binding documents.  I would need spiritually binding ceremonies.  I would need cosmic forces that would come to bear upon my female counterpart, to force her to raise the child with me and be financially committed to it, before I had sex with her, if I could get pregnant from having sex.

You think that’s a joke?  I am in no way joking about that.  I already know the consequence is having a baby.  Why on earth, would I risk that?  I am not kidding at all.

Everyone is quick to say 2 things:

  1. kids are just kids and don’t know anything
  2. kids are so grown up these days and know everything

I tend to think the 2nd is true.  I think kids know that by having sex, a baby will pop out.  So I do not think it’s harsh to say that EVERYONE knows the consequences of having sex.  If they know to have sex, they know what’s going to happen at the other end of that.  Even if you never told a child that, instinctively they know that having sex is different from anything else they have EVER done.  That instinct alone tells us that sex is something unique.

[for those saying it’s not kids fault if they have children after having sex, reread the above paragraph]

So I have told you so far that we all know where babies come from; we all know that unwed mothers are a minority within the Black community; so what is the definition of a Black man.  I said all the above to bring you to the frame of mind that, this negative propaganda against the Black man has nothing to do with the core definition of a Black man.  Why in the hell would you define your races strongest sex, by some political mumbo jumbo that’s based on lies?

What Does it Mean to be a Black Man?

A man in general is someone who is capable of putting bread on his own table, putting a roof over his own head and standing by his own word.  Notice I made the definition selfish.  Why is that?  Because it is the reality of the definition.  A man is not defined by what he does for a female, nor is a female defined by what she does for a man?  Somehow our society tries to put man and woman together and try to equate them.

When you, a female, goes out to find yourself a “man” you should not looking for a male that has done tricks for other women, you need to find yourself a male that can do for himself.

This is exactly why we are in this stupid predicament of “he my baby daddy and he don’t pay me”.  If you find yourself a “man” then none of this would happen.

Let’s go over that definition.  It has 3 parts:

  1. capable of putting bread on his own table,
  2. putting a roof over his own head
  3. standing by his own word.

Immediately, if you have studied any psychology or anthropology, that you see the basic human needs are met, food and shelter.  But, for our modern society I have upgraded it to gainful employment and self sufficiency.  Once you find a brother that is self sufficient, the search for a “man” is nearly over.  The very last part of the definition elevates a man as someone that is trustworthy.  You should never jump in bed with anyone, ever, to begin with.  However, should you find yourself in the predicament of falling to lust, make sure you’re with a trustworthy man.  If your man is trustworthy to begin with, for the most part, he was probably going to marry you anyway.  Even if he wasn’t considering marrying you before you getting pregnant, he would probably go ahead and marry you.

[for those with this foolish notion that marriage isn’t everything or that marriage means nothing, someone needs to knock some sense into you.  marriage is everything and children are everything. family is everything. without family you have nothing. regardless of how much money you make in your life, at the end of the day money is meaningless and the lasting impressions are what life is about.]

It’s the finding the man you can depend on and trust, that’s the hard part.  I know it’s easy, in a time of weakness, to just go find any old Tom, Harry and Dick, but the onus is on you to bear the brunt of the responsibility if you end up in a life changing predicament.  You literally have noone but yourself to blame.  Once you have found a dependable man, it is rather easy to date him and / or marry him.  And, as long as you don’t sweat the small stuff, your marriage will last forever.

So let’s not fall into the trap of letting some bitter man / woman define what a Black man is for us.  With a cool head and mind, we can define what a real Black man, all by ourselves.

Loose Ends

Some people take my definition to mean that they should only date Black men who drives BMWs.  Since I said you should look for a man that can provide for himself.  But, I was being literal when I said he can provide for himself.  Instead of looking for a Black man driving a BMW, you need to look FOR a BMW [Black Man Working].  If you live in gang territory, and the nerd that goes to his Famous Amos job every day and only makes $150.00 / week net take home, isn’t considered to be a “baller” in your hood, then you’ve got your head screwed on wrong.  First of all a “baller” isn’t someone who spends lots of money, but someone who makes lots of money.  If the brother is spending lots of money, it means he’ll quickly end up without that money.  [hello Toni Braxton, is broke, cuz she spends money like a drunken sailor]

Don’t look for the flashy guy, look for the guy that has the mind to be responsible.  If he’s responsible to himself, he’ll be responsible with you.  If a Black man HAPPENS to drive a BMW, he better be making so much that the cost of the car was negligible to him, meaning in relative terms he could more than afford to buy it and is not going broke from it. [hell for that matter find a brother driving a BMW that is paid off, screw a car payment]

Also do not discount a Black man that lives at home with his parents.  I wish I had parents I could live with, I’d be saving so much money it wouldn’t be funny.  If you find a Black man that has a job, or runs a business [even better] and lives at home, then more than likely you have hit the jackpot.

  1. he’s not stupid enough to be paying rent, giving his money away to someone else
  2. he’s probably stashing away money like a squirrel in summer
  3. he’s probably got a lot going on upstairs [as in his brain] since #1 and #2 might be true

So many females disrespect a Black man that lives at home.  More than likely, they don’t have a clue about life themselves.  But, should you be one of those females and you’re reading this understand this: paying rent makes someone else rich.  Sure you have some privacy [not really if it’s an apartment].  Sure you have some security [not really if it’s an apartment].  But, for the most part you are working to pay off someone else’s mortgage.

Sadly Black people pay a much higher percentage of their monthly income in housing than any other race.  This means that Black people tend to go over the financially sound principles of maintaining and gaining wealth.*

If I were you, you being a young female, I would actually LOOK for a Black man with a job or who owns a business that lives at home.  Unless you can find a Black man that runs his own business and has a house that’s already paid for, look for the one that lives at home, the rest are foolish and don’t know the value of a dollar.
