Palms Casino Owner George Maloof Jr. Gets Trial Date For DUI

by Jagajeet Chiba, – Las Vegas casino magnate and Sacramento Kings co-owner George Maloof Jr. has a trial date for his DUI case.  Maloof Jr. is the owner of the Palms Casino.  On October 9 [2010] he was pulled over on suspicion of driving while under the influence just southwest of the Las Vegas Strip.

Maloof later told The Associated Press that he had four beers at a wedding and that his blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.086%.

That’s just over the legal limit in Nevada of 0.08%, but Maloof said he thought he was “nowhere near intoxicated.”

A May 31 trial date has been set.

Palm Casino Owner Arrested for DUI

Palms Owner George Maloof Arrested for DUI

George Maloof Jr.

by The Associated Press [LAS VEGAS]  — Palms Casino Resort owner George Maloof Jr. was arrested for drunken driving after being pulled over by police late Saturday night [October 9th, 2010].

George Maloof Jr. was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Spanish Trail Country Club, where he lives, police said Monday. Maloof, 46, told The Associated Press he was driving home with his assistant from a friend’s wedding at The Mirage hotel-casino about six miles away.

Maloof said the assistant asked him to drive. “I just didn’t think I needed her to drive — I should have had her drive — because I didn’t drink that much,” said Maloof. He said he thought he was “nowhere near intoxicated” and would likely fight the arrest in court.

Maloof said he had four beers and his blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.086 percent. That’s just over the legal limit in Nevada of 0.08 percent. He said he asked if he could go home but was told he would be arrested.

Police searched his car and his assistant’s purse but found nothing else out of the ordinary, Maloof said. Police spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said Maloof was speeding 21 to 30 mph over the limit, made an illegal left turn and was driving without a valid license or proof of insurance.

Maloof said he didn’t post bail and didn’t want to call anyone, and was released from jail Sunday morning.

Maloof owns the resort with his brothers and sister. His family also owns the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.

Man Arrested for Smuggling 18 Titi Monkeys in His Socks

Weird Stories: 18 Monkeys Smuggled into Mexico City Airport

The Tiny Titi Monkey

A man was found with no less than 18 monkeys inside his clothing, attempting to smuggle them into Mexico.  A Mexican citizen, Roberto Sol Cabrera, arriving from Lima, Peru was arrested at Mexico City’s international airport.  The discovery was made after a random check was conducted.  He had put the 18 Titi monkey’s in a waist girdle.  What tipped the police off was that the man was acting nervously.

After questioning the man said, originally he had put the monkeys in his luggage.  He later removed them, he said, to protect them from X-rays” when going through customs.  Cabrera had originally placed the monkeys in socks inside the luggage.  Sadly two of the animals died before the discovery was made.

What is unique about Titi monkey is that they are found in South America and are a protected endangered species.  To own them requires a possession permit.  The permit is pretty pricey, which is a far cry from what Cabrera said he had paid for them.  He confessed to paying simply $30 per monkey.  In the underground wild species trade, these Titi monkeys will fetch a cool $775 up to $1,550 per monkey.

According to an international wildlife trade monitoring network named Traffic, wild animal trafficking is a serious problem in Mexico.  Adrian Reuter, a representative for the group, said:

“The reasons are two: one, because Mexico is an important route for those who want to smuggle animals into the US, and the other, because, as in other countries of Latin America, there is a deep-rooted tradition of having wild animals as pets.”

The remaining monkeys will be returned to proper authorities who will send the monkeys back and reintroduce them into the wild.  “We hope”.  [knowing the rife corruption in Mexico, it’s a wonder that the authorities themselves won’t sell the monkeys on the underground, but you didn’t hear that from me, cuz I ain’t one to gossip]

Jasmine Fiore Playboy Pictures, Murder, Ryan Jenkins, Megan Wants a Millionaire

Jasmine Fiore Swimsuit Model Playboy

When I was in law school there was one particular subject I hated: Family Law. I hated it because I had to read case after case of brutal torture and treatment of children or spouses. I didn’t even dare read any criminal law cases. I don’t know how i got through those classes.

Here we have the horrific story of a swimsuit beauty model, Jasmine fiore, who also used to work for Playboy, as the coordinator for Playboy’s “Girls of Golf.” Spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey said, “She never posed in the magazine.” She was found murdered, strangled to death, and someone didn’t want her identified. They removed her fingers and teeth. You have to be three shades of wacko to even contemplate doing that sort of thing. They stuffed her body in a suitcase and threw it in the trash. She was found in the Buena Park, Orange county, California on Saturday, August 15th. She was 28.

Ryan Alexander Jenkins Megan Wants a Millionaire

The only suspect they have on record as of now is husband Ryan Jenkins, who incidentally called to report her missing. He then disappeared and has yet to be found. Fiore was last seen alive with Jenkins at a poker game in San Diego.

Ryan Alexander Jenkins is Canadian and recently appeared on the reality T.V. show “Megan Wants a Millionaire,” where he battle for the affection of blond model Megan Hauserman. Fiore and Jenkins met in March at a Las Vegas casino where Jenkins was partying after wrapping up “Millionaire,” said Fiore’s mother, Lisa Lepore. And in typical Las Vegas fashion, they got married there on March 18, according to a Clark County marriage certificate. It was a spontaneous marriage, “right after they met, one of those wild things,” Lepore said. But it soon went south. In May, “they had a big blowout. She had the marriage annulled,” she said. “She didn’t trust him because he was doing things behind her back,” she said. “He did everything that she asked him not to do,” Lepore said. “She got furious.”

The Orange County district attorney’s office has charged Jenkins with murder and issued a warrant for his arrest. Jenkins, 32, is believed to be in Canada, and officers there said Thursday that ground, air and canine units are searching for him. A car and empty boat trailer belonging to Jenkins were found Wednesday at a marina in the northwest Washington town of Blaine, near the border.

Ryan Jenkins, is from Calgary, Alberta. A resume posted on the networking site says he graduated from Mount Royal College in Calgary in 1999, has a license to fly commercial airplanes and worked in investment sales and as president of a boutique development company focused on cutting-edge green technologies. Jenkins was convicted of assault in Canada in 2007 and has a pending domestic battery case in Las Vegas. In January 2007, Jenkins was sentenced to 15 months of probation in his hometown of Calgary, Canada, on an unspecified assault charge, according to the Alberta Ministry of Justice. No further details were available. Court records show Jenkins was charged in June in Clark County, Nev., with a misdemeanor count of “battery constituting domestic violence” on accusations that he hit Fiore in the arm. He is scheduled for a Dec. 18 non-jury trial.

Gwendolyn Beauregard of Bonny Doon, a longtime friend to Jasmine Fiore, is scheduled to discuss the case on Larry King Live and Good Morning America.

In my opinion this is a classic case of marrying someone you don’t know. Yes, I know there’s the romantic notion that you can go to Vegas and marry someone that you’ve known all your life but was forbidden to, but often you hear of those cases of “we were drunk and one thing led to another…” She obviously didn’t know him. And, he obviously didn’t know her.

Blackhawks Patrick Kane Arrested Over 20 Cents

Patrick Kane Arrested

Chicago Blackhawk right winger and South Buffalo native Patrick Kane and his cousin, James Kane, face robbery and other charges after allegedly assaulting a cab driver and failing to pay their fare after getting a ride from Chippewa Street early this morning.

Buffalo Police Spokesperson Mike DeGeorge has confirmed to Eyewitness News that Chicago Blackhawk Player and Buffalo native Patrick Kane has been arrested over an alleged dispute over cab fare. He and another party were taken into custody early Sunday morning.

Kane, 20, and James M. Kane, 21, were arrested about 5 a.m. on Eastwood Place, according to Buffalo police reports.

Patrick Kane Charged with a Felony Over 20 Cents

The pair allegedly punched the cab driver and grabbed money they had handed him after he told them he didn’t have twenty cents in coins to give them their change, grabbed his throat and broke his glasses, according to police.

Their fare was $13.80 and they handed the driver $15, according to a report. The cab driver handed them a dollar back and told them he didn’t have coins to cover the $0.20.

The Kanes were charged with felony second degree robbery, criminal mischief and theft of services. Patrick Kane pleaded not guilty in city court Sunday morning, according to WIVB-TV. It was not immediately clear when James Kane will appear in court.

Kane’s agent, Pat Brisson, did not immediately return a call for comment. The Blackhawks are aware of the allegations against Kane, spokesman Brandon Faber said.

“He is a big part of our organization and a team leader and we stand behind him,” Faber said. “As we are still collecting all the facts, it would be premature to comment further at this time.”

On Thursday, Patrick Kane was at a Buffalo ice rink where he played hockey as a child to help Mayor Byron Brown announce funding for improvements.

He said at the time he was happy to have time “to hang out back home in Buffalo.”

“The best thing about it is my friends treat me like I’m a regular kid,” said Kane, the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft. “They don’t treat me like a celebrity or whatever they might treat me like in Chicago.”

Kane, a Buffalo native, was the first pick in the 2007 NHL and has played with the Blackhawks for the past two seasons. He won the Calder Trophy in 2008, awarded to the NHL’s top rookie. [courtesy Fox Sports and ESPN]

Black Harvard Professor / White Cop

Obama Asks The Two Over for Beer

The White House’s brewski diplomacy between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates and the cop who arrested him in his home should take place early this week, officials said.

President Obama, who invited the two men over for a beer to defuse the controversy, hopes to see them “in the next several days,” said press secretary Robert Gibbs.

“He understood that the debate was veering off in the wrong direction, and, as he said, that his words may have contributed to that. So he felt a responsibility to step forward and kind of cool the situation down,” Obama advisor David Axelrod said on CBS’s Face the Nation. “I think the president sees this as an opportunity to get dialogue going on an issue that’s been historically troubling,” Axelrod said. “I think the steam has gone out of this. And now, instead of heat being generated, maybe a little light will be generated off of this situation.”

Racial Comments on Professor Gates’ Website

It was probably inevitable that in the furor over the arrest of the Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., some people would resort publicly to the ugly racial slurs that have largely disappeared from polite conversation.

But it is hard to imagine a more incongruous place for such comments than The Root, an online magazine of politics and culture largely by and for black people, where Mr. Gates is editor in chief.

Yet there they were last week, in comments on an interview with Dr. Gates, who was arrested at his home in Cambridge, Mass., on a disorderly conduct charge that was quickly dropped.

A few commenters used grotesque racial epithets, others crudely parodied black speech, and some proudly called themselves racist. One used the screen name of James Earl Ray, the man who killed Martin Luther King Jr.

My Own Personal Story

I’m Black. [very black] I came home one night, when I lived with my cousin, ex-patriots player. It was freezing in the dead of winter. No one was home, which was shocking, because they had two little boys and never left the home empty, either my cousin or his wife were always there. I had just finished a 12 hour shift and this was just … *sigh* great. Now i knew that next door to him was his old football coach. [white man and family] I knocked on the door, introduced myself and asked if i could use the phone or stay until my cousin returned. [ door slammed in my face ] I later learned, from my cousin, whom I now know is a total snake, was berated by the neighbor as [ some strange black man came to our door, how dare he ] And, instead of my own flesh and blood defending me [ law school educated, world traveled, foreign service, diplomatic ties ] to this middle-class neighbor, he returned the favor and berated me and asked me to leave his home.

I share this story because it reveals something in America. This neighbor accepted my football playing, Black, cousin, but TO HIM, I was still just some poor dumb negro. Which he found unacceptable. [ of course my cousin was too stupid to understand this ] What’s funny is growing up, my cousin, who is older than me, disliked me because I was stuck up. I think instead of thinking straight, he chose this time to instead stick it to me. Me, who had made him feel inadequate every time I came back to the states, telling wonderful stories of my travels over seas.

The white neighbor was forgotten the next day. But, my cousin, every time I see him, infrequently, I never acknowledge him.

Gates did not violate any law. Under Massachusetts law, which the police officer was supposedly enforcing, yelling at a police officer is not illegal.

There are clear decisions of the Massachusetts courts holding that a person who berates an officer, even during an arrest, is not guilty of disorderly conduct. And yet that is exactly what Gates was arrested for.

The Massachusetts statute defining “disorderly conduct” used to have a provision that made it illegal to make “unreasonable noise or offensively coarse utterance, gesture or display,” or to address “abusive language to any person present.” Yet the courts have interpreted that provision to violate the Massachusetts Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of speech. So police cannot lawfully arrest a person for hurling abusive language at an officer.
